Stream: Weather - Ralph

Weather is the latest track from Toronto pop star Ralph, and it’s another lovely record that feels both modern and timeless.

Blending soft chords and gentle vocals, Weather paints a picture of someone who is lost in the uncertainty of a relationship that is still in its early days. Sometimes it’s hard to know whether a connection will endure and outlive its initial environmental triggers… The summer sun may make love burn hot, but will it still be warm as winter sets in.

Appropriately, Ralph’s debut album is due this Autumn. Check out Weather below, and look out for her on tour over the next few months - you can find tour dates at the bottom of this post.

Video: Tease - Ralph

Back for the first time on these pages since last August’s lovely Something More, Toronto musician Ralph has just released the video for her latest single Tease.

Coming with the news that we can expect her debut EP on 3 March, Tease is inspired by men that act like they are available when they are actually spoken for. Ralph describes the song as “an 80’s pop tune that confronts an issue but still maintains optimism and energy. (it) condones female friendship instead of competition”.

The video is the output of a collaboration with Ralph’s creative partner Gemma Warren, an organic process that came together the moment Warren first heard the track. “Gemma literally danced in our kitchen the first time she heard Tease and we discussed the treatment from that moment.” Rather than rely on trained dancers since they “preferred the organic movements that each girl brought to the table”.

Stream: Something More - Ralph

Something More is the latest release from Toronto artist Ralph and it's an infectiously slinky R&B number.

Having grown up listening to Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Prince and the Temptations, Ralph (real name Raffa Weyman) has a particular appreciation for music from the past and looks to blend those together to create smooth soul meets disco pop.

With unusual inspiration coming from Aziz Ansari's Netflix TV show Master of None, Weyman explains:

"The show honestly narrates the existential issues faced by young adults now. Consumed with social media and dating apps, we're obsessed with the idea of something more or someone better, often leading us to sabotage the good things we have."
