Let's kick of 2012 with some nice filtered French touch in the form of Yorkshireman Étranger's heady remix of 'I Must Be A Lover' by Guillemots. It has a lush little intro and a gorgeous disco chorus - listen and download below:
'I Must Be A Lover' is taken from the Guillemots' album Walk The River.
Wild combination make cosmic art pop that is had to resist. There is an incescant jangly pleasure to this single from Wild Combination and it's catchy as hell.
Wild combination are a three piece from Essex and this single is released on 31 October. Pan Left have done a two-step influenced remix of 'We Are The Creatures'. That description makes it sound like it should be rubbish but it actually works - it reminds me of Deadboy's sundrenched take on the genre, which is a definite compliment. Gabrielle (or Gabriel as it later became know on re-release) is regarded as a classic piece of house. With heavy but loose bass and lots of reverb it eventually became a bit of a poster child for UK Garage, despite originated from the US.
Here Call Super takes disperate elements from the original to make a entirely new cut-up chillwave epic. It feels like early days of summer, encapsulating a deep sense of yearning that ran through the original and, as the press release rightly points out, makes the whole thing feel way more Ballearic.
Call Super is Berlin based Joseph Richmond-Seaton and this follows the Staircase EP from earlier this year. Check out his Tumblr for more. Call Super resides on London label Five Easy Pieces.

I don't really know much about this other than that fact that it landed in my inbox with little to no explanation a couple of months ago. Creators Notic Nastic label this as a podcast but it's all music, is continuous and created from scratch so I'd probably argue that the label 'podcast' undersells it.
Putting what it isn't to one side, let's talk about what Atom+Eve is rather than what it isn't: insane, analogue and twisted. Whilst the vocals occasionally try a little too hard (I'm thinking the ”world was made of..." section) they lend the whole thing a paranoid disembodied monologue feel that completely fits with the music. The podcast is the perfect length for a continuous piece of music such as this - at just over 30 minutes it's either a refreshingly brief mix or one of the longest single songs I've ever heard but it sticks around just about as long as it should.
The music itself is grimey and analogue synth work mostly and it is at its best when refreshingly stripped back. The opening four minutes build tension with minimal bleeps and percussion before Notic Nastic rain burning hot distorted bass all over it. This doesn't necessarily feel like music to dance to, but you could definitely try.
Check it out on the Soundcloud player below and have a download if you like it. This mix packs a lot in to a small amount of time so it's well worth a listen and Notic Nastic are definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Mario Basanov is another artist who has been on my radar for a while. Last year he dropped the nice disco effort 'Up' (which featured on Future Disco 4, as covered here) and he also featured on the Future Balearica album. Whilst those tracks are good it is his latest single, the first to feature a full vocal (delivered by Mario himself no less) that really blew me away.
'Lonely Days' is pure summer Balearic heaven - a fusion of cosmic disco and house that I can't get enough of. The original mix is pure laid back summery goodness whilst the Plate Dub adds a slow piano combined with a driving build-up this is utterly irresistible - to listen to this and not dream of being out lounging in the sun is impossible. Even better is Drop Out Orchestra's remix, which adds a heavier disco flourish to the original and some awesome guitar (there is nowhere near enough guitar in house music). You can check out embeds of the former two on Soundcloud below, but the Drop Out Orchestra version is worth seeking out:
Mario has also just released a free downloadable mix and I'm pleased to say that it totally brings the lush, warm sound that I love about his work to a long form mix. No track listing at present (let us know if you find one) but trust me, it's a keeper. You can listen to it and download on the Soundcloud player (or link) below:
